Eoin Mclaughlin is a Sunday Times bestselling author.

His first book, The Hug, was named a ‘Book of the Year’ by The Guardian and has been translated into over 28 languages. It was awarded a D&AD Pencil.

The follow-up, While We Can’t Hug, was used to help children around the world during the pandemic. Recognised as ‘Timely’ (The Telegraph), ‘Touching’ (The Guardian) and ‘an important historical record of the time’ (The Times). It was nominated for the Carnegie Illustration Medal, shortlisted at the Irish Book Awards and read on the BBC on Christmas Day.

Before becoming an author Eoin was a Creative Director at Channel 4, where he once had to bake cookies for the Cookie Monster. They must be 10cm wide and have precisely six chocolate chips. His films have been shown at the Cannes International Film Festival and are held in the permanent collection at the MOMA.

Eoin’s also worked in bookshops and cinemas. He’s been a removal man, a builder, barman and strawberry picker. He’s delivered furniture. He’s assembled watches. He’s repossessed televisions. He’s been trapped in call centres, offices and factories. He once tried to be a bin man, but he got sent home because he was wearing the wrong shoes. He knows how it feels.

Originally from New Ross. He now lives in Mauritius.

Events:

I live far away from everywhere.
But I can try to make events work, either online or with enough planning.
I love libraries. I love schools. I’ve spoken at The Dublin, Singapore and Cambridge International Literature Festivals.
It’s the best part of my job.
